Holly's Second, Even Better Hobby is....Curling!

Curling is soo exciting!  It is played on the ice, which is cool enough as it is, and it uses none other than brooms and rocks.  It has probably been around for centuries, seeing as cavemen could have easily invented this game by throwing rocks down ice and clean the path with tree branches. Awesome!

Curling Essentials

Curling Fundamentals

  1. One person pick up the rock.
  2. The other two people pick up the brooms.
  3. Throw the rock down the ice.
  4. As soon as it hits the ice, the broom people start cleaning the rock's path down the ice.
  5. Make it go as far as possible.

Curling is very interesting when you look at the facts. First of all it is played in the Olympics. How cool?!  Secondly, it is the only sport in the Olympics played with brooms.  In fact, it is probably the only real sport in the world played with brooms! Also it is the least physically demanding sport.  I mean how in shape do you have to be to throw a rock down ice then skate next to it sweeping clean its path?  Really the only skill you need is to be able to skate.

Curling is just plain fun too!  Anyone can play, even little kids.  In Canada year round it is probably real popular. It is not expensive to play either. you can find almost all your equipment outside.  Rocks are easy to find, for a broom you can use a tree branch, so pretty much the only thing you have to buy is ice skates. Some nifty kids can probably rig those up easily themselves.  In conclusion curling is the best sport. It is fun, easy, and thrifty. And I am a BA at it as you can tell from the picture:
