Super Bowl XXVIII was a rematch of Super Bowl XXVII.  The Cowboys faced the Bills once again in the final game of the season, this time in Atlanta.  The Buffalo Bills were now in the fourth straight Super Bowl appearance and they wanted the ring more than any team in the league.  They had to get past the defending world champions in order to do so. The Bills stepped it up in the first half.  They limited the powerful Dallas offense to two field goals.  A touchdown by Thurman Thomas and a pair of field goals by Steve Christie gave the Bills a 13-6 lead at halftime.

Despite a pitiful first half, the Cowboys were determined to turn things around in the next half hour of play, and they did.  55 seconds into the third quarter, Thomas lost the ball which was picked up by Safety James Washington who took it 46-yards to tie the game at 13.  After a Buffalo punt, Emmitt Smith took over to steer the Cowboys to a second consecutive Super Bowl.  He ran for 61-yards and capped of with a 15-yard touchdown.  Later in the game, Smith pounded in the ball from one yard out on fourth-and-goal with 9:5O remaining, giving them a 27-10 lead.  A Cowboys field goal with under 3:00 minutes to play was the nail that sealed the coffin.  Emmitt Smith received the MVP award with 132 yards and two touchdowns.  The Bills had lost their fourth straight Super Bowl and the Cowboys tied the 49ers and the Steelers and with 4 Super Bowl wins.
