Super Bowl XXVII pitted the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California. The Bills were coming into their third straight Super Bowl.  They had lost the previous two games to the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins the year after.  Now that they faced Dallas, it seemed like they were battling every team in the NFC East for a Super Bowl win.  The Bills took an early 7-0 lead, but they lost that lead in 25 seconds after creating 2 of their 9 record setting turnovers of the game. After the Cowboys intercepted a pass, Troy Aikman threw a 23-yard pass to Jay Novacek.  On the next play from scrimmage, Charles Haley fumbled the ball on the 2-yard line where Cowboys’ Jimmy Jones scooped up the ball and gave Dallas a 14-7 lead.  Aikman threw 2 touchdown passes to Michael Irvin in less than 18 seconds to give the Cowboys a commanding lead at intermission.

The Cowboys clearly dominated the rest of the game.  They allowed the Bills only ten more points and easily set up 24 more of their own.  Leon Lett had a chance to break the Super Bowl record score of 55 points, set by the 49ers, but his showboating allowed Don Beebe to knock the ball out of his hands just seconds before entering the goal line. This play had no effect on the outcome of the game but it showed how much the Bills were determined to not give up.  The game ended with a score of 52-17.  Troy Aikman was voted the games most valuable player with 22 of 30 completed passes and 273 yards.
